Mission Statement

To partner for better investigation, assessment, prosecution and treatment for children and families impacted by child abuse and neglect.

Values, Beliefs and Principles

The list below represents the partnering agencies beliefs about children, families, community, systems and the Wicomico Child Advocacy Center:

  1. We are dedicated to children and families and are committed to be faithful to the truth.
  2. We believe in protecting and respecting the rights, dignity and integrity of children and families.
  3. We believe that children have the right to a safe and nurturing home environment.
  4. We believe that treatment begins immediately to facilitate the healing of the child and family.
  5. We believe that all representatives of the agencies involved with children and their families are dedicated to minimizing trauma to the child and family.
  6. We believe that immediate action followed by intensive work is needed to resolve the case.
  7. We believe in fostering a team environment of mutual respect even in the face of professional differences of opinion.
  8. We believe that community partnerships are essential to ensure the protection of children.
  9. We believe in valuing our staff and protecting them from vicarious trauma.
  10. We are committed to maintaining a continuous learning organization.
  11. We believe that increased community awareness will lead to greater prevention of child abuse and neglect.
  12. We believe that all child and families served by the Children's Advocacy Center should have counseling.

Services Provided

  1. 24 hour response to reports of child maltreatment
  2. Forensic interviews of victims that reduce the overall number of interviews needed
  3. Comprehensive assessment and investigation of child neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and mental abuse reports
  4. Immediate referrals to counseling for victims and non-offending family members to aid the healing process
  5. Case management and referrals to community resources to help families receive needed services
  6. Prosecution of offenders when warranted by the evidence
  7. Multidisciplinary coordination and sharing of information to better protect the child and hold the offender accountable
  8. Community education about child abuse
